What to see in Antalya: the city through a resident's eyes
What to see in Antalya when you are here for a long time: the old town, waterfalls, beaches and ancient ruins. All of it is easy to explore without tours.
The main sights of Antalya are gathered in one city and next to it. What to see in Antalya on your own — below, by district. All places were checked on official websites on 18 October 2026.
Old Antalya
What to see in old Antalya — start with Kaleici. It is part of the Muratpasa district; about life there — "the old town — Muratpasa".
- Kaleici — the old town behind the fortress walls. Two- and three-storey houses with gardens, and the ancient harbour is now a marina for yachts (Kültür Portalı).
- Hadrian's Gate — built in 130 in honour of the emperor Hadrian. Three arches of white marble; the second tier has not survived (Kültür Portalı).
- The Fluted Minaret and the Hıdırlık Tower — among the main monuments of Kaleici, together with the clock tower and old madrasas (Kültür Portalı).
- The Archaeological Museum — closed to visitors as of 18 October 2026. Check the status on muze.gov.tr before you go.
Waterfalls
- Lower Düden — 8 km from the centre towards Lara. The water falls into the sea from a height of 40 metres; it is easier to watch from the park next to it, with cafés, parking and picnic spots (Kültür Portalı).
- Upper Düden — in Kepez, the Düdenbaşı quarter. You can get there by public transport (Kültür Portalı).
Beaches
- Konyaalti — 11 city beaches with a Blue Flag, mostly pebbles (TÜRÇEV). More about the district — "Konyaalti beach".
- Lara — sandy beaches in the east of the city (TÜRÇEV). About life nearby — "Lara beach".
- Cliff beaches — Erenkuş, İnciraltı, Mobil and Konserve Koyu: municipal beaches of Muratpasa, where you go down into the water from the rocks (Muratpasa municipality).
Out of town
- Perge — an ancient city in Aksu. Open every day from 08:00 to 19:00, ticket office until 18:30; the theatre is closed for restoration (muze.gov.tr).
- Kırkgöz Han — a Seljuk caravanserai in the suburb of Dosemealti (Dosemealti district governorate).
With children and in the evening
Where to go with children in Antalya? The park by Lower Düden with a picnic and the Retro Car Museum in Kepez (Kepez municipality). And where to go in Antalya in the evening — see "Antalya events": concerts, theatre and exhibitions.
